Last year…

Stories of Sandeept got an upgrade as we shifted from the “wordpress.com” domain to the “.com” domain. (See: Site Update#1: A New Phase for Stories of Sandeept.) We also hosted the website on Babal.Host and brought other changes, all of which are documented on our Site Update page.

Babal.Host new servers
WordPress Pro by Babal Host

This year…

Our host, Babal.Host shifted their StableHost servers from Singapore to our home country, Nepal. Our website has become completely local.

What does this change in servers mean?

As stated before, we are now completely based in Nepal. Some native WordPress features, like caching, have also changed, making the website faster, and solving server-related backend errors has become easier.

One jarring change was the backend error connecting to the Jetpack plugin. Since it comes natively with the wordpress.com domain, it helps manage subscribers, newsletters, blocking spams, and so on. When we upgraded last year, we decided to keep it. However, this year’s change at the server level compelled us to think about it.

Jetpack is actually a heavy plugin with many premium features that were unaffordable to us. We had been using the plugin only for checking statistics, managing subscribers, and sending newsletters updating the latest posts.

After removing Jetpack, we now have WP Statistics for checking site stats. For subscription and newsletter management, we installed MailPoet. Both plugins provide a greater range of services even in the free tier, which makes them more useful.

We have already started connecting to subscribers through emails sent via MailPoet. In recent months, posts on our website have become sparse because of various reasons. We will be more regular as we embrace the change in servers.
